Internet Security Tips

Posted on Updated on

Hello nerds and nerdesses, welcome to The Osai Effect
via @theosaieffect
Internet security is one thing that a number of us take for granted, from our pin numbers, to our passwords, our GPS coordinates and so many others. The laxity in internet security is the motivator for the segment and we are gonna share as much as we can to keep your identity, your data and your money safe.
via @theosaieffect
Today, we are gonna be talking about ‘Check In’ and ‘Location’ on Facebook. The Check-In feature was designed for one to check in into a public place or place of interest so that they could find landmarks and friends. I believe the location button in messages was also created for similar purposes. However nice these features are, hackers are on the prowl and these features give them a diplomatic passport into our devices.

Sharing locations is good but it’s pretty unadvisable when at home as we could be tracked to a very good degree of accuracy using Google Maps! (It’s a free app on Android!) We should take care to put it off when sending messages to people who we do not know personally and we should always put our GPS off until we want to use it.

Electronic Library

Posted on Updated on

Hello nerds and nerdesses, welcome to The Osai Effect
via @theosaieffect

Today, we kick off our Electronic Library segment! Good books like apps and games and songs are pretty hard to find; unlike the aforementioned that one could easily decide whether or not they are good, a person has to actually sit for a while before deciding whether a book is good or not. Well, worry no more because The Osai Effect has you covered! The books appearing here will be books we are either currently reading or have read and have certified to be good. Books are always a good source of entertainment, information and they also expand your vocabulary! We urge us to read at least one book a week and watch how well our grammar would improve! [In Electronic Library, we may also host short stories and flash fiction]. Well, without further ado, let’s get right to it!

via @theosaieffect
BOOK TITLE: The Blade Itself
AUTHOR: Joe Abercrombie
GENRE: Fantasy
PLOT: The Blade Itself is fantasy novel which begins with a pursuit through a forest by mythical creatures called Shanka [Flatheads]. The first character we meet, a barbarian called Logen ‘Bloody Nine’ Ninefingers, narrowly escapes with his life by jumping off a cliff. The following chapter introduces us to Inquisitor Sand dan Glokta, a wasted cripple but ruthless torturer who constantly questions his position in life. Logen is called south by a magus called Bayaz and his journey with him to Adua is one that is perilous and daunting. Webs upon webs of politics and deceit surround Inquisitor Glokta whose only joy is in his job. We meet Jezal dan Luthar, a pompous son of a wealthy lord. Although an officer in the army, Luthar is unblooded and yearns to prove himself in the Contest which is held annually by the King. We also meet Ferro Maljinn, a runaway slave from the Emperor of Gurkhul; she [Ferro] has sworn vengeance on the whole nation of Gurkhul and its’ citizens. The Blade Itself centers around nobility, politics, violence and magic. There is a touch of love, romance, friendship and honour in some of the characters and Abercrombie explores them most masterfully. Joe Abercrombie takes us into the heart of the Union and introduces us to fighters, politicians, lords, Inquisitors and so many other characters, introducing us to their lives, their families, their pain and suffering and their joys. The Blade Itself is a masterful work of fiction and the descriptive prowess of Abercrombie is still a dream for some writers.

LIKES: The characters are very realistic and easy to believe; the plot is wonderful and seamless; there is synchronization of the whole book and one does not have to endlessly flip back to check what is what and who is who;
DISLIKES: None as of yet
RATING: The Blade Itself is a wonderful book and we give it a solid 8.5/10. A must read!

Hello nerds and nerdesses, welcome to the Osai Effect

Christmas is already around the corner and the end of the year is already in sight. We already dropped our own Christmas list a while back and so this time we’re giving you some select Tunes From Way Back. The songs on our playlist today are what we call Evergreen. Pure, indigenous African music dredged from the edge of an era. These are songs one can enjoy any day, anytime! Play them for your folks and we can guarantee you would put a smile on their faces 😉 Without further ado, let’s jump right in!

This week, we have at number 5 a lovely track from the late 90s. Although not exactly an evergreen, we are however quite sure some of us remember the song and can appreciate it. We give y’all Love Me Jeje by Seyi Sodimu!

At number 4 we have a track a number of us must have rocked and danced to growing up. The intro and instrumentals remain distinctive and awesome. A true evergreen song and a wonderful track out of our dear Mother Africa, we give y’all Gaou by Magic System!

Although this may not be in the same category as the rest of the other songs, we just could not skip this song. This is a song that is so full of pomp and beautiful lyrics. Very slow yet danceable, very unique and lovely. We give y’all Prayer for the Youth by Lágbájá!

Making the number 2 spot this week is one of the very definitions of evergreen. A massive hit in the  80s and 90s, a great, great song by our very own Mike Okri. Here he is with Omoge!

And finally, at our number 1 spot is the man referred to as Independence Child. The father of Zigima music, a son of the soil, a wonderful musician. We are ecstatic to give you Because of English by our very own Bright Chimezie!

App Of The Week

Posted on Updated on

Hello nerds and nerdesses, welcome to the Osai Effect

image

Have you ever had so many pictures and videos that your SD Card and Internal memory space both got full? Have you ever woken up one morning only to find out that all your photos and videos are gone. A formatted memory card or a crashed memory card. They both amount to the same thing, though. You lose your files and that sucks! Well, worry no more because we got you covered!

image

Some Android devices synchronize photos and videos to Google automatically, but in case yours does not, we have just the right thing for you: Dropbox! Although we have had Dropbox as an App of the Week sometime in November, we believe a number of people are yet to benefit from the usage of Dropbox. When using Dropbox, you could turn on the automatic sync where anything captured by your camera gets uploaded automatically. Which means, one does not have to worry about lost data! Other files like songs and documents can also be uploaded and can be downloaded from any device signed into Dropbox with your email address.

via @theosaieffect

We sincerely hope the loss of files stops because that sucks majorly. Thanks for reading, Ciao! Please follow us on Twitter @TheOsaiEffect , on Google+ via +TheOsaiEffect and 7B963F97 on BBM. Read the older post HERE
